Like a Mermaid

I may have a slight obsession with mermaids. When I was a little girl I would go to sleep with my legs in mermaid fin position and pray that I would wake up transformed, into a real mermaid. I still sing "Part of Your World" and swim around like The Little Mermaid in the lake at our cottage. I've come to accept that I will never be half woman, half fish, and that this is probably for the best...but I am still drawn to all things mermaid, scaly, and iridescent. Here are my mermaid-esque accessory picks!

Colour Moment: Turquoise

The first jewelry I fell in love with was a tray full of turquoise and silver jewels from a shop on a Native Reserve near my cottage. Something about those two colours together just spoke to me and will forever remind me of gloriously hot summers, teepees, and the sweet smell of a warm summer breeze. I wanted every piece of turquoise jewelry in the tray.  The chunkier the better. To this day I still love turquoise jewelry and the bohemian luxe flair that it ads to any outfit.

As a throwback to my first jewelry love, I've rounded up my current favourite turquoise pieces on the market.

1. My own turquoise ring. Acquired during my high school years, I'll never let it go.
2. DANNIJO, Perra Cuff
3. Samantha Wills, Bohemian Bardot Ring
4. The 2Bandits, Daytripper Necklace
5. Samantha Wills, Cleo's Secret Earrings
6. Samantha Wills, All For You Earrings
7. The 2Bandits, Teepee Cuff
8. The 2Bandits, Morning Glory Necklace
9. Samantha Wills, Cameo Lover Collar Necklace
10. The 2Bandits, Canoe Paddle Earrings
11. Samantha Wills, Back to the Garden Ring
12. The 2Bandits, Concho Wing Cuff

Trend Spotting: Neon + Rhinestone Necklaces

This look is classic meets trendy; colorful meets demure; and ladylike meets street-style. The trend I am talking about is taking the classic rhinestone necklace and adding in bright pops of neon color. This trend has been popping up in many of my favorite stores and offers a fun and modern way to incorporate fancy rhinestones into your day-to-day style. From Tom Binns and Shourouk to American Eagle and Club Monaco, there is a neon rhinestone necklace out there for everyone!

Some of my favorites below!

3. Dorthy Perkins, Pink Neon Ethnic Necklace
5. Adia Kibur, Short Neon Stone Necklace
8. Club Monaco, Poppy Crystal Necklace
10. DANNIJO, Capucine

Studio Spotlight: Dannijo

Collage Vintage recently got the thrill of a lifetime (my words, not hers) and got to tour Dannijo's jewelry studio in the Meatpacking District. For the 2% of you unaware of Dannijo, is the brain child of the sister/sister team behind the uber popular jewelry line known for bright colors, bibs, and statement cuffs.

Grab a Kleenex because you'll probably drool: photos of their show room below!

Fall Jewelry Must-Haves

It's official, the days are getting shorter (sob, sob) and the mercury is beginning to drop. Before we know it the leaves will be changing to colors we never knew existed and we'll be piling on the layers to enjoy the crisp autumn air.  The slightly cooler temps got me thinking about Fall wardrobe staples and what the essential jewelry pieces are for the Fall 2012 season.  If you're going to invest in a few new pieces this Fall, something from each one of these categories would be my humble suggestion.

Eye Candy

Leandra Medine, better known as The Man Repeller, teamed up with the DANNIJO sisters to release MR DANNIJO volume II.

The line focuses on, as Leandra put it, "facial features above the fold."  What a clever idea! Eyes are everywhere these days. Take a look a this post if you're not convinced.

For the full collection, go here and for Leandra's hilarious article about the line and the DANNIJO sisters (she includes herself in this group) check out this post. You'll be glad you did!

Top of my wishlist? The Umbilical by MR DANNIJO
