DIY Friday: Dainty Lariat Necklace

It's not often that I get to blog on a Friday night, but my husband is out and the baby is asleep. I have the place to myself and a glass of wine in hand. I can almost hear the collective "ahhhh" over the internet.

I've been obsessed with lariat necklaces this season. I even added them as one of my five must haves for fall, here. Strangely enough, I haven't seen many in stores and I just haven't taken the jump online. Until I do, I decided to make my own lariat to wear.

I made this necklace so quickly this afternoon - in less than 5 minutes - that I didn't even stop to think about taking photos. So for now, here is the finished product. If you'd like a step by step how-to, let me know in the comments below and I'll update this post!

Now I really should head to bed. I have a 5 am wake-up time as we're headed to LA for the week! I can't wait. Be sure to follow along on Instagram for all of the California fun.

DIY Friday: Gold Art Deco Bracelet

Well, look who found some time to do a DIY this week! I ordered this beautiful vintage clasp on Etsy a few weeks ago and when it arrived, I couldn't wait to put it to use. I had originally wanted to use this clasp as the working clasp for the bracelet, but it's so old and delicate that I was too afraid it would break if I repeatedly opened and closed it! So I added a traditional lobster clasp and am happy with the results.

Want to make your own art deco bracelet? Follow these simple steps.

You'll need:
- gold curb chain, art deco clasp/button, 4 jump rings, one lobster clasp, flat nose pliers, and snips

Step 1:
Using your snips, cut your curb chain into two, 2 - 2.5 inch pieces. Attach art deco clasp to chain with jump rings.

Step 2:
Attach a jump ring to one end of the bracelet.

Step 3:
Attach your lobster clasp to the other end of the bracelet.

 Enjoy!

DIY Friday: Great Gatsby Inspired Bracelet

I whipped up this retro little number after re-reading my Great Gatsby jewelry post.  I ordered a bunch of these pretty little rhinestone connectors and couldn't wait to start putting them to use. I decided to use the pink and gold gems with a double strand of gold chain on each side. To complete the Gatsby look, I added a gold chain tassel in the middle of the bracelet. The result is a fun, feminine, and totally flapper appropriate bracelet. Now if only we could still have parties like Gatsby's...

I can't wait to see this story come to life on the big screen and will definitely wear my Gatsby bracelet to the movie. Will you be checking out The Great Gatsby?

DIY Friday: Gemstone Keychain

My keychain round-up from earlier this week was a lot of fun to put together but it got me thinking about making a unique version of my own.  I had some chunky blue agate stones lying around that didn't work out for another project, so I decide to use them here! You'll also need some chunky metal chain, a keychain ring, some jump rings, a jumble of thin chain, and 20 gauge wire.

Let's get started!

Start by cutting making a loop in one end of the wire and wrap around base to finish.

Drop your stone down onto the wire and repeat the same step above (loop with wrapping) to finish.

Open a jump ring and slip it through the top loop of your stone and through one end of the chunky metal chain. Close.

Attach the key ring to the other end of the chunky chain.

Cut varying lengths of the small chain and thread them onto an open jump ring.

Attach the jump ring with fringe through the loop at the top of your gemstone.

Open another jump ring and loop the bottom ends of the small chains onto the ring and then close the ring through the loop on the bottom of your stone.

Attach your keys and enjoy!

Let me know what you think and if you're going to try this keychain DIY!

If crafting or time aren't on your side, I also have lots more of these for sale --> $15 :) Email me if interested! joliejouel@gmail.com

Friendship Bracelets: My Latest DIY

Happy Friday! This week flew by for me. Maybe it's the hint of warmer weather we've been having and the increased sunshine that's making the days seem brighter, fresher, faster.

I wanted to share these fun friendship bracelets I've been making in anticipation for summer. I've ordered a bunch of colourful cord and fun rhinestones in hopes of making piles of these bright bracelets to spice up my arm party (and my friends'!).  I am going to do a giveaway with one of these beauties when I reach 200 twitter followers or 200 followers on Jolie Jouel - whichever comes first! Friendship bracelets are a fun way to add colour to your outfit and they're easy to stack up with your other favourite bracelets.

Have a great weekend!

Spring Fever

<< Beautiful ombre coloured glasses and vases + shades of green pottery >>

Something about the dreary mid-February weather brings out the do-er in me. To combat the cold, I made this week about searching out fun colours, jewelry making, and planning fun events for Spring.  Here are few photos that have me gearing up for brighter weather and hopefully they'll inspire some colour in your life as well! Happy weekend :)
