Currently Loving: April 2014

Spring is here! It's time to brighten up your soles, redecorate your favourite room, and lighten up on the jewelry. Here are my favourites to help you with a fresh start this month.

1. We're finishing our basement which means lots of fun furniture and decor shopping. Currently have my eye on this this geomtric pillow cover and this moody cactus print from the Aestate (#8).

2. Affordable stacking rings. These brass beauties from LA Kaiser and comfortable and dainty. I am loving the squared corners for something new and different.

3. Feed Your Ends: This leave in conditioner leaves my hair so soft and detangled and yet light and bouncy. It contains essential oils (and vitamins and minerals) but doesn't seem to weigh hair down. For my dry, unruly hair, it's truly a miracle worker.

4. Frame Denim: These dark ripped jeans may seem like an odd choice for spring, but I think black always works. Pair with a white tee or a bright sleeveless blouse for a decidedly cool look.

5. Bright flats. Yes, flats! Can we wear flats now? Snow, are you going to finish melting soon? Loving these ones from Belle by Sigerson Morrison.  I snagged mine on Gilt but you can also find on Shopbop.

6. The perfect baby shower gift? Handmade, natural, and oh so cute.

7. See description #1 :)

8. I am a sucker for unique jewelry storage. I am always looking for clever and visually appealing ways to store my trinkets and this brass elephant box from Jonathan Adler cover both bases.

Get the Look: Dainty Layering

My favourite way to wear jewelry these days is by piling on dainty layers. This short gold necklace paired with a longer lariat is perfection. The chunkier geometric ring and red nails add just the right amount of edge.

Get this look below!

1. Lariat: Jennifer Zeuner Double Diamond Lariat
2. Necklace: Esty (bargain!)
3. Ring: Forever 21 (mega bargain!)
4. Nails: Julep (Myrtel - flapper red)

This would be the perfect look for date night on Valentine's Day. Switch out the grey tank for pink or the black blazer for red, and you're all set!

DIY Friday: Gold Art Deco Bracelet

Well, look who found some time to do a DIY this week! I ordered this beautiful vintage clasp on Etsy a few weeks ago and when it arrived, I couldn't wait to put it to use. I had originally wanted to use this clasp as the working clasp for the bracelet, but it's so old and delicate that I was too afraid it would break if I repeatedly opened and closed it! So I added a traditional lobster clasp and am happy with the results.

Want to make your own art deco bracelet? Follow these simple steps.

You'll need:
- gold curb chain, art deco clasp/button, 4 jump rings, one lobster clasp, flat nose pliers, and snips

Step 1:
Using your snips, cut your curb chain into two, 2 - 2.5 inch pieces. Attach art deco clasp to chain with jump rings.

Step 2:
Attach a jump ring to one end of the bracelet.

Step 3:
Attach your lobster clasp to the other end of the bracelet.

 Enjoy!

*Also wearing Jennie Kwon Designs Onyx ring, Catbird rose gold Tom Boy FKR
and Nikki B beaded bracelet c/o Favery. *

Trend Spotting: Soft Elastic Hair Ties (+bracelets!)

Tired of traditional ponytail holders that break and dent your hair? These hair ties, made from a hand knotted soft and stretchy material, are just the solution! They double as bracelets, and with the endless colour and pattern possibilities, you can be sure to find one (or two!) to coordinate with your outfit.

I've been seeing these soft hair ties popping up everywhere. I can't seem to find who made them first (Emi-Jay maybe? Let me know if you know!), as I like to give credit where credit is due...but it's likely there are so many brands and versions because they look relatively easy to make.  If you know how to tie a knot, you can go into business. Not looking to DIY? Here are some of my favorite hair ties below!
