This or That? Friendship Jewelry Edition

Remember back in grade school when you'd trade broken half-heart necklaces from Claire's with your best friend? It was like getting engaged, for the younger set. There was something more special about your half a heart pendant than all of your other trinkets. It had meaning.

It's still a sweet sentiment to employ if you have a cherished friend who is also a jewelry lover. Friendship jewelry might even make for a sweet Christmas gift!

Do or Don't? Backward Necklaces

Sometimes the best ideas come from flipping the norm. Necklaces normally worn dangling in the front suddenly seem chic and modern flipped around to the back. The result is unexpected and dare I say, sexy? But tell me, what do you think? Is this flip a "Do" or a "Don't" in your books?

Trend Spotting: In the Stars

Maybe it's the approaching holidays, or maybe designers just know a good thing when they see it, but stars are showing up in jewelry design galore.  It's the perfect little symbol for the Christmas season and is visually interesting in its simplicity.  I would love to get my hands on a few of these! Line Lust: Jessica Seaton

When I first saw these photos (here) I was instantly taken by the whimsy and edginess of the jewelry.  These designs are from Los Angeles based designer Jessica Seaton.  She creates her jewelry by hand hand sculpting wax and casting it using the ancient method of lost wax. Apparently her fingers are stained from working with metals, staining wood, and dying fabrics.  So cool.  Her celebrity fans include Blake Lively, Mira Sorvino, Michelle Rodriguez and Hanneli Mustaparta. And I think she's about to gain a few more fans.

Celebrity Jewelry Style: Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston has the classic west coast laid back look down.  With her tousled tresses, perfectly fitted jeans, and killer bod, it would be hard for her to look bad, even if she tried.  She keeps things simple sticking with neutral colors, tried and true silhouettes, and highlighted hair that is the envy of blondes everywhere.  Hollywood's Golden Girl also has a thing for gold.  She chooses dainty necklaces and gold bangles for daytime and chandelier earrings for the red carpet. Trend Spotting: The Bunny

One of my most beloved animals is popping (or hopping?!) up jewelry design! I for one love this little symbol. They bunny is sweet, cautious, and down-right cute. It's that time of year again when men start growing fuzzy little upper-lips. Love it or hate it, it is for a good cause.  And we can suffer for one month for a good cause, right ladies? Let's just hope they don't get too attached to their warm upper lip.

One Piece, Three Ways: Holiday Necklace

The mercury is dropping and it's beginning to at least look like the holidays are just around the corner. Everywhere I look - department stores, coffee shops, book stores - Christmas trees are popping up and red, silver, and gold are sparkling away. For me, the "red cup" at Starbucks signals the official launch of the holidays season, and well, I got one over the weekend.

All of this holiday cheer got me thinking about festive jewelry and accessories.  The necklaces tend to be bigger; the earrings, fancier; and the bracelets, sparklier.

Let's start with the necklaces. Look for a versatile piece that you can wear with a party dress or jeans. Stick with silver or gold or mixed metals. You don't really need to add in color here.  Look for a piece that you wouldn't likely wear in the summer. Think crystals, pearls, and other heavy gems. This Kenneth Cole Urban Glitz Link Necklace from Piperlime is a good example.

Do or Don't? Science Inspired Jewelry

Oh the science of it all.  

McTega jewelry is the brainchild of scientists, Sarah McLellan and Kristina Ortega, who studied science, pre-med and microbiology in college.  They found mirrored plexiglass pieces shopping in the garment district and thought they looked like carbon link structures.  A jewelry line was born.
