Do or Don't? Turquoise Jewelry for Fall

Sweater: Hudson's Bay // Jeans: Paige Denim // Shoes: Nine West // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff //

Turquoise is one of my favourite colours and stones. I love the way turquoise looks with a tan and pops against a plain white tee.  But what do you think about turquoise jewelry in the colder months - is it appropriate for fall and winter?

I thought I would give it a go and wore this very chunky turquoise necklace with a softer blue sweater and was surprised by how much I liked the bright colour for fall. I think if done right, you can wear your summer jewelry a few months longer by styling with chunky knits, moody hues, and steering clear of white.

But what do you think - would you wear turquoise, coral, or another 'summer' stone in the fall?

Line Lust: Satomi Kawakita Jewelry

I first stumbled upon Satomi Kawakita jewelry on Catbird's site. Intrigued by what I saw there, I searched out the entire line. The line is filled with simple necklaces, beautiful rings, dainty bracelets, and organic earrings.

Here are some of my favourite pieces from the Satomi Kawakita line.

Trend Spotting: Open Cuff Rings

I just got back from a trip to LA where I shopped Robertson, the Grove, the Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade looking for a cuff ring. Sadly, I returned empty handed. So here we are with an online round-up of my favorite open cuff rings. Aren't they pretty?

Embracing Fall: Coats, Booties, and Moody Jewelry

Wearing: Zara Coat, Cake for Breakfast tee, Piperlime booties (similar), Rebecca Minkoff bag (similar), American Eagle sunglasses

Look at me posing like a personal style blogger by some graffiti downtown. This is harder (and more embarassing!) than it looks. Bloggers make it look so easy. Maybe it is easy for the effortless cool and beautiful. I kind of wanted to run and hide every time someone walked by.

I am loving this Zara jacket with faux leather sleeves for fall. And I couldn't be more excited to be wearing boots again! I finished off the look with a soft ampersand tee, dark jewelry, and some shades.

DIY Friday: Dainty Lariat Necklace

It's not often that I get to blog on a Friday night, but my husband is out and the baby is asleep. I have the place to myself and a glass of wine in hand. I can almost hear the collective "ahhhh" over the internet.

I've been obsessed with lariat necklaces this season. I even added them as one of my five must haves for fall, here. Strangely enough, I haven't seen many in stores and I just haven't taken the jump online. Until I do, I decided to make my own lariat to wear.

I made this necklace so quickly this afternoon - in less than 5 minutes - that I didn't even stop to think about taking photos. So for now, here is the finished product. If you'd like a step by step how-to, let me know in the comments below and I'll update this post!

Now I really should head to bed. I have a 5 am wake-up time as we're headed to LA for the week! I can't wait. Be sure to follow along on Instagram for all of the California fun.

Get the Look: Mixed Metal Momma

pc

One thing we know? Mixing metals is totally on trend for fall. Gone are the days of sticking to all gold or all silver or white gold with your jewelry. Something else that is on trend for fall? Mixing textures and weights. Pair your dainty bracelets with chunky rings and your thin bracelets with heavier bangles for a look that totally 'du jour.'

The Full Finger Ring

full finger ring, c/o Kami Lerner // onyx ring, Jennie Kwon // necklace, Vale //

With the arrival of cooler temps and heavier knits and layers, jewelry lovers can safely switch out their dainty jewelry for heavier, edgier pieces. This full finger ring is the perfect example of a piece that might seem too clunky, warm, and bold for summer, but fits right in with the autumnal weather.

And here's a glimpse of my wee Sage. Loving her moccasins for autumn!

Celebrity Jewelry Style: Lucy Hale

Pretty Little Liars is my Guilty Little Pleasure. Can we talk about the season finale for a moment?! I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who are not yet caught up, BUT who they have us believing is 'A' when the episode ends is a little crazy/heartbreaking/shocking. I digress...

My favourite little liar is Aria played by Lucy Hale. She's the edgiest dresser of all of the girls and rocks some serious statement pieces. Let's take a look at Aria and Lucy's jewelry style below! (Hint: you're going to want to look for bold statement necklaces and edgy earrings.)

DIY Friday: Gold Art Deco Bracelet

Well, look who found some time to do a DIY this week! I ordered this beautiful vintage clasp on Etsy a few weeks ago and when it arrived, I couldn't wait to put it to use. I had originally wanted to use this clasp as the working clasp for the bracelet, but it's so old and delicate that I was too afraid it would break if I repeatedly opened and closed it! So I added a traditional lobster clasp and am happy with the results.

Want to make your own art deco bracelet? Follow these simple steps.

You'll need:
- gold curb chain, art deco clasp/button, 4 jump rings, one lobster clasp, flat nose pliers, and snips

Step 1:
Using your snips, cut your curb chain into two, 2 - 2.5 inch pieces. Attach art deco clasp to chain with jump rings.

Step 2:
Attach a jump ring to one end of the bracelet.

Step 3:
Attach your lobster clasp to the other end of the bracelet.

 Enjoy!
